Aquinas College is a Catholic Regional College for young people in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri people. Commencing in January 2026, Aquinas College wishes to employ a dynamic and suitably qualified Director of Learning. The Director of Learning exercises a senior leadership role within the College. The role carries with it specific responsibilities with respect to the development and management of curriculum and teaching staff. The major purpose of this role is to lead and enhance the quality of the educational life at the College in respect to the whole College’s documented learning programs.
This Position of Leadership (Level 4) comes with a component of remuneration and time release. This leadership opportunity is available for a period of 3 years, with an ongoing teaching position associated with the appointments.
The preferred candidate will be enthusiastic, keen to engage and inspire our and students and able to deliver curriculum that caters for students with different learning styles.
The successful applicant will have:
- An ability to deliver excellent educational outcomes both in teaching and learning.
- An ability to articulate and support the Aquinas Vision and Mission for education within the context of the College’s Catholic identity and evangelising mission.
- A well observed and clear understanding of the teaching and learning climate of the College and the national and state curriculum.
- An understanding of the College’s Mission Charter and Strategic Plan as it specifically relates to student learning and achievement.
- An understanding of ‘The Attributes of an Aquinas Student’ and the “Three Storey Intellect’ and the implications for students
- A strong working knowledge of the Victorian Curriculum.
- A strong understanding of the MACS Vision for Instruction, Vision for Engagement and other relevant MACS policies related to learning and teaching.
- An understanding of educational data and how it can inform teaching and learning.
- An ability to communicate an understanding of that data to teaching staff.
- An ability to lead and coordinate staff.
- An ability to assist the personal guidance of staff and promote a sense of balanced wellbeing for staff in relation to their workloads.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A high degree of professionalism.
- An ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Current VIT Registration
- Relevant permissions to work in Australia
