Director of Student Services - POL3

Aquinas College is a Catholic Regional College for young people in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri people. Commencing in January 2026, Aquinas College wishes to employ a dynamic and suitably qualified Director of Student Services. The Director of Student Services (DSS) is a key pastoral leadership position within the College. The major purpose of this role is to ensure the work of the Youth and Family Centre (YFC) and Health Centre (HC) is of a high professional standard and responds to the needs of the students and their families. The YFC and HC Teams provide services based on a continuum of care model. This model is based on the Framework for Student Support Services in Victorian Schools.

This Position of Leadership (Level 3) comes with a component of remuneration and time release. The leadership opportunity is available for a period of 3 years, with an ongoing teaching position associated with the appointments.

The preferred candidate will be enthusiastic, keen to engage and inspire our and students and able to deliver curriculum that caters for students with different learning styles.

The successful applicant will have:

-Qualifications in student wellbeing, counselling and/or educational administration.


- Knowledge and experience in counselling particularly in relation to working with adolescents and their families, including best practice principles and current theoretical knowledge.


- Knowledge and understanding of first aid principles and procedures aligned with the management of medical records and medication administration.


- Knowledge and understanding in crisis intervention.


- Knowledge of adolescent development and the ability to apply this to counselling, the development of intervention programs and first aid.


- The ability to work collaboratively with a variety of professionals involved in providing support to students.


- Demonstrated high level of organisational and time management skills.


- Proven ability to provide leadership and to work as a member of a team.


- Knowledge of the relevant Professional Practice Standards.


- Knowledge of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 and the Health Records Act 2001.


- Ability to contribute to ongoing development of appropriate policies and best practices. Ability to review current documentation and contribute to development of policies and processes for counselling and wellbeing throughout the school.


- The ability to articulate and action the Aquinas vision and mission for all students with an explicit understanding of the College’s Mission Charter and Strategic Plan as it relates to the work of Student Services.


- The ability to liaise with parents and primary schools around possible enrolment of students with particular needs.


- A minimum of 5 years full time teaching experience in a similar role in a recognised educational institution.


- An ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.


- Current VIT Registration


- Relevant permissions to work in Australia
