Year 12 Farewells
The last fortnight has witnessed a number of rites of passage for our Year 12 Class of 2026 as they conclude their final school days as Aquinas students. For most, it is the culmination of 6 years at Aquinas and 13 years of schooling. While our VCE students still have crucial weeks of preparing for and sitting their final VCE exams, last Friday’s Celebration Day activities and Graduation Ceremony marked the end of their formal schooling at Aquinas College.
At their final assembly, I thanked our Year 12s for the great example of community and belonging they have shown, truly embodying our Spirit of Aquinas values and proving to be wonderful role models as the inaugural senior students in our Vertical Pastoral system in the many ways they embraced mentoring and leading younger students.
A few weeks ago I was blessed to visit Corinth, the place St Paul wrote to in the Letter to the Corinthians used in this year’s College theme “One Body in Christ”. As the first Christian spreading Jesus’ message of love to Europe, St Paul faced a society where Christ’s values were at odds with most of that Roman society. Similarly, carrying the values and faith learnt and practiced at Aquinas will be difficult for our graduates at times, especially in our society that too often focuses on differences as weaknesses to divide us instead of valuing our different strengths that contribute to working together to be one body. Just as St Paul drew strength from Christ’s message, we pray for our graduates to hold fast to their Aquinas values:
To continue to build a sense of belonging;
to be stewards of our environment;
to persevere when times get tough;
to be advocates for justice in the spirit of Christ;
to be voices of compassion;
and to take the time to nurture your spirituality.
We pray that our graduates use their different gifts and our Aquinas values to be a light in our world.

2027 College Captains
Our Year 12 Farewell College Assembly also featured the traditional handover to 2027 Year 12 College Captains and Vice Captains from our wonderful 2026 leaders. Just yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting with our enthusiastic incoming captains and was very impressed by their maturity and love for the College, along with their thoughtful and creative vision for continuing to improve both student voice and student experience at our College.
It is with great pleasure that I congratulate the following students on their appointment as our 2027 Aquinas College Captains & Vice Captains:
College Captains: Dulcie White & Ted Wardle
College Vice Captains: Aiden Penhale & Lyla Van Marle
Please read below to learn more about our 2027 student leaders.
The full list of our 2027 Year 12 student leadership will be in our next newsletter.
Year 10 Gala Ball
It was a delight to attend the first of the two Year 10 Gala Balls and witness our students in their black and white finery. The dance lessons were certainly on show and it was a great pleasure to witness the many proud parents, grandparents and family members in attendance to support our Year 10 students (including some energetic dancing from younger siblings…and some staff!). Many thanks to the PACE (Parents & Community Engagement) Network for coordinating this unique opportunity and to the staff who assisted in the organisation and supervision.
Splendour in November - save the date!
With Gala now done, the PACE team turn their attention to our second annual ‘Splendour in November’. On Wednesday 25 November all families are encouraged to join the planned festivities, which will include a Family Mass, BBQ dinner, live music & dance performances, food trucks, games and activities, along with Art, Technology and Fashion displays. The 2027 Year 7 Talking Transition and 2027 VCE Information presentations will round out the evening.
Student-free days: 30 October & 2 November
Families are reminded that we have two student-free days approaching.
- On Friday 30 October, our staff PL day will focus on the goals and strategies of our 2026-29 Strategic Improvement Plan (SIP).
- Monday 2 November will also be a student-free day for the Melbourne Cup Long Weekend. The office & finance will be closed as the College will only be open for VCE Unit 3/4 examinations on this day.
